A Cheeky Little Monkey in the Making

This morning, Kaeden sat in his new booster seat, and I put a bunch of Cheerios on his table. He ate some, and probably because he was getting full, he starts to take them, one at a time, thankfully, and throwing them on the floor. At one point, as he was about to drop the Cheerio over the edge, I said, “不行!” He looked at me, brought the Cheerio back to the table, then proceeded to chuck it over the edge. That little monkey! :)
He had real people lunch again today – we went to the Chois, and had 米台目 (or Bi Tai Ba, or something like that in Taiwanese). It was really good and Kaeden loved it.
This afternoon, he only took a short nap, so he was really grumpy and wanted to just suck his thumb. He was playing, then decided he wanted to crawl to me. The obstacle? His thumb was in his mouth and he couldn’t figure out how to crawl without letting it go. The poor guy! :)

Costco

We went to Costco today. Kaeden hadn’t had a nap, but he just loves shopping. He’s my little trooper! He almost got a bite of Peking Duck Pizza, then proceeded to rip my receipt and drink my Iced Tea. Always the helper!
He played with Aunt Sara at night, which was a great blessing. He’s a grump until someone comes to visit, then he’s just thrilled – laughing and clapping!

Waving Bye-Bye

Yep, that’s the trick of the day. He’s waving goodbye.
He’s also still clapping. Or saying, “more". We can’t really tell. Or maybe he’s saying, “Great food, give me more!”
In any case, he’s a keeper.
I also tried to give him some watermelon juice from my cup today since he loved the mango juice at Chili’s in Malaysia so much, but he kept turning his head away. I don’t really know why – he’s such a funny boy.

Kaeden’s Favourite Things

Not much happened today. Kaeden’s still a clapping maniac. Clapping anytime he hears a tune, clapping when he sees food, clapping just because he’s discovered his two hands can actually meet in the middle! He’s such an awesome little guy.
I was thinking today that I haven’t written much about what he likes, so here’s a list off the top of my head:
- drawstrings of my pajama pants
- any wires, strings, and anything else that’s rope-like
- any electronics, especially the TV, the DVD player and the telephone
- his little “car” (the walker the Chois lent us), especially the plastic tail that’s attached to it
- digging out of our packed boxes
- food, especially the Japanese rice crackers and Cheerios
- Harold, his giant monkey
- his plastic balls, especially banging them together to make noise
- books – he loves to EAT them
- my pink foam slippers
- the door stop – you know those magnetic ones that prevent the door from hitting the wall
- Makena & Riley (two little girls in our building)
- the Wardles’ coasters
- eating any of the above items

Clappity Clap

Kaeden’s happy today. He woke up clapping and has been doing that all day long.
We went on a 7.5 km hike and he was such a trooper, just hanging out in his stroller. It must have sapped his energy looking at everything cause when we had lunch after, he ate two handfuls of cheerios, an entire banana and a stick of cheese.

Turning into a big boy…

We were watching a movie and Kaeden just spent a huge chunk of time playing by himself with all his toys. We looked over and he’s just enjoying himself, moving things here and there, banging things together, and looking like such a grown-up little kid.

A Day of Firsts

What a big day for a little guy!
Last night, Kaeden slept for the first time in his own room. He’s been waking up at midnight and 4am, then at 5:30am when Kris awakens, and then again at 6:30am. So yesterday, we decided we’d put him in another room.
He woke up at 11pm, and I gave him some milk, and then he awoke again at 2:30am. We let him cry for about half an hour, and he eventually fell asleep until 7am this morning.
The other news is much more exciting. I took Kaeden over to school for lunch with Kris, and we were all singing to see if Kaeden would dance. Instead of just dancing, he stood ALL BY HIMSELF on a stool! He did it over and over, for at least 10 seconds each time. He’s a big kid now!
Then this evening after supper, he was playing with Harold the monkey, and decided to stand up all on his own, waving both arms in the air. He was so proud of himself!! He must have done it for at least a minute.

An Eating Machine

Kaeden’s been an eating machine these last two days, and he’s eating “grown-up” food.
Sigh… my little one is already growing up too fast and he’s not even one yet.
He’s now onto three meals a day, generally eating rice with some sort of vegetable. He’s also eating a fruit and cheerios at lunch and those awesomely unflavourful rice crackers for a snack.
Tonight, he had to say goodbye to his little girl friend. She’s moving to Canada.

Jan. 11

Someone whose name starts with a K and ends with an N didn’t sleep last night. He cried and cried and cried. We thought something was wrong, but when we brought him into bed with us, he laughed and crawled around, and generally had a blast. We don’t know what was up with him.
Today, he played with Henry and Riley, and then with AJ and Naomi, and of course, Harold the monkey. He seems in very good spirits despite his lack of sleep. His mother and father, however, feel slightly differently.
Luckily, the new thing today that makes him laugh is me saying, “Three.” Yep, that’s all it takes. I put more emphasis on the “th” part, but otherwise, it’s just me saying that word, and he cracks up. I like this new game. I don’t have to move and he just lays in my lap and laughs.

Socializing

Another full day! We took Kaeden up Guanyinshan today because it’s the annual 棗子 (a special kind of fruit belonging to the date family – sort of a cross between an apple and a plum) Festival. I think it’s sometimes called the Jujube in English (no, not the gummy)!

Anyway, we hiked up there, and Kaeden bobbed along, absorbed as always by his usual surroundings. Then, he came home and played with Daddy for awhile before we went to the Muirs for supper.

He loves going there because they have so many kids! N was also there and they had such a blast!

Daddy’s Day with Little K

I got a whole day to myself today while Kaeden played with Kris. When I came back to feed him intermittently throughout the day, Kaeden would glare at me, as if saying, “How dare you leave me?!”

Kris and Kaeden had a full day of playing catch, dancing, and playing hide-and-go-seek with the walker/”race car.” There was one tired little boy at the end of the day!

Dancing… to The Office

We’ve been ferociously watching episodes of the TV show, The Office, and I guess Kaeden’s gotten used to it. He’s usually busy playing while we watch, but lately, every time the theme song comes on, he’ll stop what he’s doing, look at the TV, and start dancing to the music. As soon as it stops, he resumes his normal play. Check out the video on dropshots!

Laughter

We went out on the town today with two other ladies from the building. We got to try out different Taiwanese restaurants, and Kaeden, again, charmed them all.

His favourite thing today was me throwing a ball. For some reason, every time I throw the ball into the air, he cracks up. It’s such a delight to a mother’s heart to hear her child be full of joy.

No!

I think he knows.
He definitely knows his name. I’ve been calling his name with a different tone whenever I don’t want him to go near a certain object, like the DVD player or my slippers. Now, he turns around when I do that, looks at me, gives a little smirk, and continues on his merry way towards the forbidden item.
I’m sure he knows… that monkey! :)

EIGHT MONTHS OLD!

218For his eight month birthday, Kaeden came up with lots of new tricks today!
He’s extremely proud of himself every single time he gets a hold of the TV remote.
We were playing ball with him, and normally when he gets the ball, he picks it up and eats it. Not today! He actually attempted to throw the ball back! How cool is that! (see the video on dropshots)
We’ve also been watching episodes of The Office, and maybe he’s heard the theme song too many times or something, but his other new trick is holding onto the couch and dancing to the music! He’s such a cutie pie.

Arm Wrestling

Blueberries, Applesauce and Eggplant… it was a feast-ful day for Kaeden today! He definitely didn’t enjoy the blueberries, but loved the eggplant (he even picked it up and fed himself) and the applesauce.
He also “arm-wrestled” with his daddy today. Kris would put out his finger and Kaeden would tug on it and get a grunting kind of look on his face as he tried his hardest to pull Kris towards him. It was adorable!!

Second Christmas – from Grandma & Grandpa Knutson

211We had our second Christmas today as we got gifts from Grandma & Grandpa Knutson as well as Jack & Isaac. Kaeden had no clue what was happening, and really enjoyed one of the stickers that was on a gift bag. He kept going after it and putting it into his mouth. He got lots of cool gifts – including a cloth book and some Roughriders gear.

Merry Christmas (on Jan 1 2010)

177Happy New Year, or in our case, Merry Christmas! We celebrated Kaeden’s first Christmas today because we’d been away on vacation. We let him choose gifts to open and gave him his own to attempt at opening. He still prefers the wrapping to the actual present, and now he seems perplexed by the vast amount of toys in the living room!
A new year, and he’s as cheerful as ever. He spent the day holding onto the couch, walking back and forth, back and forth. His new trick today was sort of jumping up onto the couch to grab his favourite toy – the TV remote, before falling flat on his butt.
He loved Christmas, and we sure loved watching him.
